Doh!

Our young heroine had not heard from MacB in days. Since Sunday, in fact. Saturday night they had had one of the most romantic evenings of our young heroine’s life, and he did call the next day, but during her show (of course) so she wouldn’t be able to speak to him. She tried returning his call as soon as possible, but he didn’t pick up. She left a slightly lame message, not knowing what to say, but fully expecting that she would hear from him soon. She did not.

By Monday night, when he had not called, she started to get annoyed. Kim, Cynthia, and Sarah all laughed at her neurotic nature, and Luis insisted that the guy was just “playing it cool” and would contact her by Wednesday. “Definitely Wednesday,” Luis insisted. “Don’t worry about it.” Tuesday was tough, but she knew Luis must be right. “Wednesday is fine,” she thought.

She couldn’t stop thinking about him, though, and when the (former) Prospect emailed her to make dinner plans (as friends, natch), she agreed. This way, she could spend her Wednesday with the Prospect, not obsessively waiting for the phone to ring. When her work told her to “go home early” because they didn’t have any stuff for her to do, she met up with Kim for drinks. She cradled her phone in her hand, waiting, willing it to ring. It did not.

She met the Prospect for dinner at a very fancy new Steak place in Midtown. The restaurant had only recently opened and was empty on a Wednesday night. And far out of our young heroine’s price range, but she had already agreed to bite the bullet. Two glasses of wine later, she figured, what the hell. She had already told the Prospect that there could be no romance between them, but why not go home with him (again)? It certainly would make her feel better about the MacB situation. Who the hell did he think he was anyway, not calling? She could do better than him, if she wanted to.

She began to turn on the charm with the Prospect, flirting with him and subtly letting him know what the rest of the night would entail. He offered to pick up dinner, and she accepted. The deal had been made. They hurried back to his place and proceeded to have sex 3 times, each time more enjoyable than the last, and much more enjoyable than their first encounter. They laughed about being “fuck buddies” and what fun they had, despite themselves.

On her way home, she thought to herself that at least the Prospect was interested, attentive. Fuck MacB. If he wasn’t going to call for 3 days, forget it. She’d written him off. Better to pursue guys interested in her, right? And the Prospect was an amusing guy to waste time with…

When our young heroine checked her email the next morning, she found two from MacB, asking her out on the long-awaited date. Sent at 4:30pm, Wednesday. Oops…

Dudettes, he never called. Just emailed. I know the sentiment is the same, but logistically it is different...

Date update: it's Sunday night (only time I'm free). So we'll see.

Kim, you're the best, thanks.

But two different guys in the same week? I think that's too much for even me!
